Why People Involved in Technology Support Obama

We, people in fields involving technology, are here to make the case for why Barack Obama and Joe Biden are the only team with the vision to leverage the full potential of technology to make a more innovative economy and democratized society. Here you can learn about Obama's proposed policies in technology, media and telecommunications, as well as view videos and read posts from a wide range of technologists, innovators and entrepreneurs about why they support Obama.

To others in the tech industry: get involved and make your own written or video endorsement of Obama or point out any news or information that highlight the stark differences between the candidates. We also spotlight events that will be taking place in battleground states to promote the Obama/Biden technology and innovation agenda, and give you other ways to take action in the coming weeks.

The Obama Moment talk explaining the Tech Paradigm Shift to Europeans

Here is a very intense multimedia talk I gave in Copenhagen in October that explained the whole Obama phenonenon in historical context. The title was: "The Obama Moment: How New Technologies and New Media are Changing Politics and Soon Government." It's an excellent quality video can boils down how big a deal his election is. The first 30 minutes is the formal talk, and the rest discussion. As I told the Europeans, hang on for the ride. This story has just begun...

Technology Has Played A Critical Role in the 2008 Race

Innovations in technology have impacted every aspect of our lives, whether it's the way we shop, the way we look for places to live or the way we keep in touch with our friends and family. It should be no surprise that recent advances in online technology have also made a big difference since 2004 in the way Americans are participating in the current election. As a small business owner whose practice at Fission Strategy involves helping people take advantage of new technology to reach their target audiences, I'm pleased to report that when it comes to using new technology, Obama employs not just talk but real action with real results. This is evident in The Pew Internet & American Life Project which did a study just after the primaries called The Internet and the 2008 Election.

Why Tim O'Reilly Supports Barack Obama

I came across this endorsement of Obama by Tim O'Reilly, who is the founder and CEO of O'Reilly Media, Inc., which hosts conferences on technology topics, including the Web 2.0 Summit and the O'Reilly Emerging Technology Conference. Tim is an extremely respected tech leader and his lengthy endorsement is very thoughtful and convincing. Instead of badgering him to make an endorsement on this website, I give you the link and the top of the essay below:

In my talks this year, I have been outlining some of the world's great problems, highlighting some of the things that are being done by technology innovators to solve them, and urging my listeners to "work on stuff that matters."

Tech workers seem to overwhelmingly vote with their dollars for Obama

An analysis done of the employers of contributors to the Obama and McCain campaign has a perhaps-not-surprise conclusion: that tech industry workers appear to overwhelmingly support Obama with their donations. Robin Harris has this story over at:

http://blogs.zdnet.com/storage/?p=362

Workers at 9 of 10 tech companies they looked at supported Obama more than 80% of the time; only EMC was off of that, and EMC employees still went with Obama 56% of the time.

I did like Robin's conclusion:

Looking at the numbers, the surprising thing was how few people bothered to donate to either candidate. The 10 companies employ over 500,000 people; just over 3,000 contributed to either campaign. Wake up, people!

Right on!

Spokane event in pictures

Recap from our October 17th event in Spokane:
The speeches were great, the Q&A was very lively,
the venue was perfect, and we went 50 mins late but that was great because
it showed a high level of interest.  We had about 30 folks there,
and the Mayor made an appearance toward the end.  Special thanks to
Chris for coming up from SF and for Rob for hosting us and providing the
refreshments.
